Teaching

Along with being an active pianist, Enrico Elisi is a dedicated teacher who, growing up in Italy in an international milieu, such as the renowned International Piano Academy Incontri col Maestro of Imola (presided by Vladimir Ashkenazy), absorbed several rich musical traditions of the Italian, Russian, and German schools. His talents were nurtured over many years of study with such diverse pedagogues and active concert pianists as legendary Leon Fleisher (1928), Lazar Berman (1930-2005), Alexander Lonquich (1960), Franco Scala (1938), Boris Petrushansky (1949), Joaquin Achucarro (1932). Elisi was fortunate to experience and deeply appreciate very different schools directly from pupils of Goldenweiser, Neuhaus, Zecchi, Badura-Skoda, and Schnabel.

As an Associate Professor of Piano at the Faculty of Music of the University of Toronto, he relentlessly passes on his knowledge and craftsmanship to to future generations of young pianists. His current and former students include prizewinner in competitions; hold teaching posts; performed with orchestras (including the Rochester Philharmonic); gave debut recitals from New York to Caracas, Paris and Seoul; garnered fellowships and scholarships at summer programs and have been accepted in artist diploma, MM, and DMA programs in prestigious institutions in the US and abroad.

Pianists may seek his expertise through summer festivals and workshops in the North America, Asia, and Europe. For those interested in the opportunity to join Professor Elisi's studio, applications to the University of Toronto are generally due on December 1st of each year. Auditions generally occur in February of the following year.
